Patent CEO Review by Phillip Vales : Elevator Valve

Common elevators typically operate on electrically actuated counterweights to move a cabin up and down a railway attached to a structure such as a building or office complex; another type of elevator uses electromagnetic mobility along a group of electromagnet along a pathway.  However, another more intuitive system uses air pressure to move the cabin and its contents.

In a pneumatic vacuum elevator the cabin is located within a tube within which the cabin moves.  The mechanism causing the motion is air pressing against the cabin as it ascends and descends.  Because of this as the cabin descends pressure is developed underneath the same and there must be some release of this pressure within the tube so that the descent can be effected.




In order for this to take place a cylindrical Vacuum Valve is situated atop the elevator cylinder thereby facilitating this transit.  Within this valve is a diaphragm device that expands and contracts negotiating the flow of air entering and leaving the elevator cylinder.  Two main devices control the ingress and egress of air in the device and are set at manufacture to correspond to the details of the implementation.

These are namely, a regulation device atop the valve device controls the amount of air that can be permitted to enter the diaphragm device.  The regulation device is essentially a square attachment that has passageways there through.  A screw is inserted in these passageways to effect this control and the mere alteration of the screw position in the passageways accomplish this. 

Additionally, a control member controls the quantity of airflow that gains entry into the cylinder.  The control member is preferably an electromagnetic switch that opens and closes as directed by the system.  A metal plate attached above the diaphragm and sitting therein, has a small hollow cylinder connected thereto.  This small hollow cylinder forms the mounting location for the the control member at its end opposite the metal plate.
